John Isner vs. Nicolas Mahut, Wimbledon 2010

Tennis matches have no set time limit, which can lead to some truly marathon games where displays of physical and mental endurance have been put to the test.

The longest match in professional history took place at Wimbledon in 2010, lasting an incredible eleven hours and five minutes over three days. John Isner eventually defeated Nicolas Mahut with a final set score of 70–68.

Officials had to install a temporary scoreboard because the software wasn’t designed to track scores beyond 47–47, with the match becoming a testament to the sheer stamina required at elite levels.

70–68 in the fifth is a stat that’ll probably never be broken now that they’ve brought in tie-breaks for final sets at most majors.
